Carpool 101

Are you spending thousands of dollars driving to work each year because you don’t live near BART, an ACE train or a major express bus route to Bishop Ranch? If you must have your car at work, consider adding one or more passengers. To locate existing carpools or new partners nearby, visit www.511.org.

Minor changes can add up to big savings in time and money. Carpool lanes can save 20 minutes on daily commuting each way. A two-person carpool immediately reduces your driving and commute expenses by 50%. And sharing the driving two or more days a week makes you eligible for the $60 Carpool Incentive Program.

There are also lots of perks for vanpools. Primary drivers ride free, and backup drivers pay a reduced fare. New riders can use the Vanpool Incentive Program to save 50% off the first 90 days. A free Guaranteed Ride Home Program provides all registered participants with up to six free taxi rides home per year in case of personal illness or a personal or family emergency. To top it all off, if you organize a new vanpool, you’re eligible to collect $1,000 from TK on your first anniversary of operation.

The Bishop Ranch Transportation Center promotes these and other creative commuting solutions for all types of circumstances. Child-Care Referrals

Your Tenant Services office is working with child-care referral agencies in Contra Costa County, as well as elsewhere in the Bay Area, and can help you obtain a list of licensed child-care providers based on your child’s age, hours required, location of the child-care facility and any special needs. This referral service is free to Bishop Ranch tenants and their families. For assistance, call 543-0100.
